Jesse was the oldest descendant of Elijah WARD of whom I was aware. He died 21 Nov 1993 and funeral services were held 23 Nov 1993 at Crowder Chapel Cemetery in Mossy Head; he was 98 years old. According to the article (information given by Jesse's son Fred) and his obituary Jesse was Okaloosa's oldest veteran of World War I, one time manager of the Pensacola Singer Sewing Machine Co., a civil service worker, and a hardware salesman. Mr. Turner was said to have had a computer like knowledge of the history of the area and had studied his family history for about 60 years; he was a member of the Florida Pioneer Descendants. He was a member of the Crestview Church of Christ, the American Legion Post 75, & Masonic Concord Lodge #50. He was survived by his wife Dorothy of Crestview, sons Fred Beatty of Niceville and Emory E. of Pensacola, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
