[13] George was a soldier in the War of 1812. George and his famly dealt at Poorman's Ordinary. His wife wove yardage (coth) and bartered her material for household necessities, while her husband made staves and shingles. The children worked in Poorman's fields and went to Henry Poorman's school.

Selah, at the age of 12, drove a yoke of oxen from his home in Connecticut to Ohio, coming with his father in 1823, and here became engaged in farming. Selah returned to Hartford, where he was married, and afterwards returned to Ohio. In early life he was engaged in the stone cutting business, but later purchased his homestead farm and became engaged in farming.
Charles Loveland now owns and occupies the old homestead. The residence is one of the old landmarks of the town. (History of Erie County, p582).
