The New Messies Manual by Sandra Felton is one of the most popular books for messies. In fact, most of my messie friends say that the most helpful thing a cleanie can do for a messie is give her/him a copy of one of Sandra Felton's books. Home Sweeter Home by Jann Mitchell is a sweet little book that gives some nice ideas for simplifying your life and making your home a joy to live in. Many of her tips aren't really practical for families with children, but it is still an enjoyable read, even for parents. This might make a nice gift for empty nesters who long for a more peaceful home. Creating a Beautiful Home by Alexandra Stoddard has long been one of my favorite books. It's inspiration and practical. Some of her suggestions can be done by almost anyone, no matter what your budget, while others may be out of reach for some. It's a fun book to dream to. Living a Beautiful Life, also by Alexandra Stoddard, is another one I like. It's set up in more of a list form, and some of the tips are repeated from some of her other books. I have both because I really enjoy her writing and decorating ideas. Speed Cleaning by Jeff Campbell and the Clean Team is truly a great book if you want to get very good and very efficient at cleaning. He can clean a house from top to bottom in two hours, and so can you when you follow his instructions. If you can only buy one cleaning book, this should be it! The Family Manager's Everyday Survival Guide by Kathy Peel is useful and informative. It's also easy to tuck under your car seat to bring along on trips for those times when you have to sit around and wait. Confessions of an Organized Homemaker by Deniece Schofield was one of those "change your life" kind of books for me. It was one of the first times I read in a book that there were other people like me out there, and that things could get better. Full of great tips.
