An introduction to Ecuador Life........
Petroleum can be good for a few......
and of course some people live in nice houses and have all the money they need.......
The American Petroleum Companies, among others have a strong foothold in Ecuador...also responsible for environment catastrophes and destruction of the unique fauna and rainforests, as they do everywhere else in Latin America. And those left behind are always the majority...Both the rich man's house and the shanky town near the water are pictures taken in Guayaquil.
The poverty of Ecuador is not mentioned so much, compared with Bolivia and Peru. But even if they are a country who export for big money, the money never goes to those who need them.
Most children must work, or there are also some living at the street of Quito and other larger cities. Some earn a few cents by shining shoes, selling cigarettes or other items. This is not only the hard life of the children. You can see grown men sitting trying to sell anything, just to get trough the day.
Alcoholism is a problem as everywhere else in the native/mestis populations of South America, no need to hide that. Like everywhere else among the meztis/native population, there are the everlasting hopelessness, and struggle to survive. Then it's easy to fall into the pit. Families have a harder time to survive in the larger cities. At the countryside there may be better. One tend to think that Ecuador is one of the richer countries from judging the rich mineral resources...but this is the same about Peru and Bolivia..but they are still poor, and only a few 3% have any riches to speak about.
The women had a good marked selling hats..now the sales have decreased.....Young students from the more lucky families near the "liberation" monument in Quito. Click here for Second part: Local village of Sucarte and Juncal Sources: Book from M. Munkeby " Ecuador, et utviklingsland".
