Most of what we know of Thomas Osborn of Ashford is contained in his will, which he made 27 Feb 1606/7, and which was proved 16 Oct 1611. In this document, Thomas left 20 shillings to the poor of Ashford, and 10 shillings toward the maintenance of the preachers, "if they continue preaching at Ashford." He also bequeathed 10 shillings to Mr. Hawlden, the vicar of Sellinge. To his wife, Marie [Mary], he left 10 pounds and "all such wearing apparel as I have made for her since our marriage," some household goods, and "all woodwork which I have made since our intermarriage." To Martha, "my wife's daughter," 20 shillings, and to Anna, "another of my wife's daughters," 5 shillings. Thomas left various goods and 10 pounds to his son Edward, and to Edmand Mellowe, son of Edward Mellowe, 20 shillings toward his apprenticeship. He also left 10 pounds to Nicholas Osborn's son Thomas.
e manor Ashfoorde whereof I have made surrender to the use of my last will according to the custom of the said manor, and all my other tenements and lands: to son Edwarde Osborne the copyhold purchased of John Adams sen. And the copyhold purchased of William Browne; to Jeremie Osborne my son the copyhold I purchased of Daniell Lowes alias Low and Martha his wife; to wife Mary during widowhood, the house I late purchased from Mr. Haulden, vicar of Sellindge, with the remainder to Jeremie Osborne. Executor and residuary legatee, son Jeremie Osbourne. Overseers, Nicholas Sawkins and John Smarte to receive 12d apiece for their pains. Witnesses: John Walleis, vicar of Ashfoord; Jo: Stedde, John Terrie. Read and acknowledged to be the will of Thomas Osborne 28 Oct 1608 in the presence of John Walleis vicar of Ashfoord Robert Hunt."
[NI173] Edward's will was dated 3 Apr 1623, and was proved 21 Apr 1623. In it Edward asked to be buried in the churchyard of Ashford. To his wife Mary he left 20 pounds, "one half of my household stuff not hereafter willed; an annuity of 4 pounds going out of my messuage where I dwell in Ashford." To daughter Elizabeth, wife of Richard Watts, he left certain specified goods and property. He named his daughter Mary as his residuary legatee and executor. He also left "the messuage etc. where I now dwell, to my daughter Mary", also one shop now in occupation of Johnson in Ashford "late given me by Thomas Osborne my father", and other specified property. Witnesses were James May and John Woodland.
[NI174] John was a tanner. John's will was dated 20 Jul 1603, and was proved 24 Aug 1603. He gave 50 pounds to his youngest daughter Anne, to be paid at age 18 or at her marriage. To eldest daughter Willmen, 50 pounds, to be paid at age 18 or at her marriage. To son Thomas, 80 pounds, to be paid at age 21, with provision that wife Thomazine would have the "bringing up of my children until their ages mentioned above", and would have "the use of these sums and the profits of my lands to be allowed her therefore, until the eldest come to 18 years." "To my said wife, my corn, kine, horse beasts and household stuff and 20 pounds, with proviso that if she marry again she shall give 10 pounds worth of household stuff to be equally divided among my children." He gave 20 shillings to his man Edmund Evernden, and 2 shillings to his "boy" Thomas Dixon. Executors were "Cousin John Smarte and brother Jeremye Osborne, to have 10 shillings each for their pains." Overseers were Father Thomas Osborne and Thomas Allen. Witnesses were Thomas Osborne and Edmund Everden.

In his will dated 3 Sep 1620 and proved 12 Apr 1621, Jeremy Osborn, of Ashford, tanner, left 20 shillings to the poor of Ashford. To his son Joseph, he left his "Turky carpett," and to his son Richard, his "silver cupp and two silver spoones with knobs." To his son, Thomas, he left "seaven silver spoons" and his "Tanning vessels, etc." And he adds, "The residue of my household stuff to be divided between my said sons, with proviso that Cunstance my wife have so much of my plate and household stuff as she shall think fit for her life. Also to my wife, all the money she had inn her keeping. The residue of my goods and chattels to my son Joseph." The executor was his son, Joseph. The overseers were John Walleis and Jeremy's uncle, Robert Hunt.

To son, Thomas, he left "the tan house for five years, paying rent for 20 shillings a year therefore to Joseph and allowing him a convenient way to the malthouse and river."
