Although the event had been ongoing for years, the Historian for the Effingham County Old Settlers' Reunion published the event's first bulletin in 1935. This edition is Vol. 1, No. 1, dated 7 September 1935. I scanned this copy from an original owned by Helen (Loy) Minteer, whose grandfather was my grandmother's uncle Andrew. In 1935 my grandmother's uncle had already moved to Seattle, Washington from Effingham, and I would suppose another family member had sent it to him to "keep up" with old friends and neighbors. Helen's family had made notes in this book. On page 11, the mention of "Uncle Andrew" makes it seem as if a niece/nephew of Helen's grandfather had written at least this notation. (The notation, incidentally, was amended by me in pencil, as it gave reference to "Uncle Andrew's father" when it should have been his "father's grandfather," who bore the same name John H. Loy.)

My grandfather Jesse "Jack" Walls was a participant in the reunion(s). I have his ribbon from a 1969 reunion, which I plan to later scan for this site.
