It is my hope that by this time next year (2001), this will all be a bad memory and I can move on with my life.  It's been a struggle for the past five years, however, mistakes were made by calling me a liar and questioning my integrity.  I have always prided myself with both of those qualities and it amazes me with the garbage these companies put you though.  I can't imagine how a person that was faking would survive all that I've been though unnecessarily.

(**Update December 28, 2000 -  I started receiving steroid pain blocks in February, 2000.  My Doctor is absolutely remarkable and very skilled in her profession.  I have again resumed the "moon faced" look, however, it's worth it 100%.  I currently receive pain block steroids in my back, neck, shoulders, hips, scalp and forehead.  I find the shots in my head and forehead assist with the "car accident migraines" and I have been prescribed a new medication called "maxalt wafers".  These wafers also appear to be working very well as they cut down on my migraines a great deal of the time.

In June, 2000, I received my first injections of a medication called "Botox"  It is a form of  a botulinum toxin that can be introduced to specific nerve endings  within the body.  Its purpose is to assist the patient with blocking the pain in the areas that are injected and to relieve muscle spasms.  Botox is also used for cosmetic purposes to remove wrinkles from the face.

Unfortunately, a person in chronic pain or with mental disabilities does not necessarily appear disabled to the naked eye.  If we had a cast on or were missing a limb, it would be more realistic to the general public.

There have been numerous times when I have gone grocery shopping with my mother who is in her late 60's.  Due to my injuries, I cannot bend down to lower levels, carry anything heavy or reach extensively above.  I have been given many dirty looks from other customers in these stores as they presume I am misstreating my mother by asking her to do these things for me.  Just a suggestion, however, if you ever see someone in this situation, please consider asking them if they need your assistance.  It would save the wear and tear on my mother unnecessarily.
