A Letter To My American Friends

I am proud to have many friends in your country, not only through the Internet but also those friends I have had for over 30 years, since I lived in the States, as a military wife, for a while in the late 1960's.

Back then I was ovewhelmed with your great passion for your country, your liberty and your rights. I've returned a few times since then and your National Pride had never waned. Your anthem still brings me to tears every time I hear it.

Your country is like any regular family, with it's periodic internal squabbles but... when some outsider tries to cause dissention or cause harm to your family, the squabbles are forgotten and you create a united front.

I was recently back in the United States for a 2 month holiday which entailed 21 flights all told. I was in the World Trade Center, for the first time in my life, on Christmas Day last year , not knowing it would be the last.

I have wept with you and for you since I first saw the reports about the terrorist hijackers. and with every sad story that emerges as the long days pass. BUT I know that your unqualified patriotism, your immense love for your country and freedom will unite you all in the task ahead, to eradicate scum like Osama bin Laden and his followers off the face of the earth.

I pray that your President and his team have the wisdom to eliminate this murderous filth with as little loss of life as possible. Every democratic country in the world is behind you 100% and that includes Australia, even though we are small in population.

My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy and my prayers are with you all, each and every day. Your pain is my pain.

God bless you... America.
