| Hi Tina and girls
of Troop 239, Thanks for hosting our Mascot Skip. We hope you have a good time with him. In this envelope you should find an address label for Troop 2291 in Londonderry, NH and one for my troop, you can use these when you mail him out. I have also include US Priority Mail stickers and a Completed Delivery Confirmation form to be attached when you mail him out. I have included a council patch for you and a letter about our council and troop. We have also included a special Skip SWAP for your troop. We want you to always remember him and his visit with you. We have also included a postcard with a little about Texas. The back of Skip's Journal has some blank pages, please feel free to write about your adventures with him. Our girls are very attached to Skip and will be very happy to see him come home in May and read about all his new friends. Troop 319 should have included enough SWAPs for your troop. If not please let me know and I will send more to you. If you would include SWAPs for Troop 2291 (8 Brownies) and also put one in our troop envelope, we would appreciate it. We are members of the San Antonio Area Council of Girl Scouts. SAACGS includes 8 counties and has approximately 16000 girls and 4000 adults in 950 troops. Our Council patch displays the Alamo and the Tower of Americas. Do your remember what happened at the Alamo? The 750 foot Tower of Americas was constructed for the 1968 Worlds Fair. The tower has two revolving restaurants at the top with a panoramic view of downtown San Antonio. We have an approximate population of 2.5 million. We are the home of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Sea World of Texas. SAACGS has 2 camp sites. The first is La Jita, in Utopia, Texas (about 85 miles west of us). The land was donated to the council in 1947 by Mr. & Mrs. John F Camp in honor of their granddaughter. La Jita has a little over 239 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. La Jita is used for resident camping during the summer, the most popular is horse camp. In 1984 Dinosaur tracks were discovered in the river bed and have become a special part of the camp lore. Camp Mira Sol is the second and smaller camp owned by SAACGS. Mira Sol is located in Waring, Texas. Waring is 40 miles northwest of San Antonio. The 47 acres of land was purchased in 1949 with money raised in a Community Fund Drive. Camp Mira Sol is used for resident camping during the summer, the most popular is water activities such as canoeing and swimming. The rest of the year Mira Sol is used for troop camping, council program events and training sessions. Like La Jita, Mira Sol is laid out on the banks of a river, the Guadalupe River. Cookie Money for 1998 ($0.40 per box) was allocated to build a new dining hall for Mira Sol. We are proud to be a part of this huge endeavor and love the new facility. We are a multi-level troop with 5 Cadettes, and 25 Juniors. We also have 5 Co- leaders. Each age level has a leader to help direct their programs. We also have a Craft Mom, a Snack Mom, a Car pool Dad, a Money Mom and most importantly a Cookie Mom and Dad team. The troop is broken into 5 patrols. Our Troop Crest is the Purple Pansy, which stands for Service and also means Hearts Ease. We are very active in Community Service and collected over 2000 stuffed animals for Police and Fire fighters to help comfort kids in an emergency. We are always looking for new ways to help others. The girls love to make and trade SWAPs. We love to have visiting mascot and have a wonderful time showing them around. We love to earn badges and go camping. We collect council patches (only 5 more to go). We had a overnighter at Randolph Air Force Base. We went to visit a horse farm and learned all about horses. We like to take goodies to the local Police and Firefighters on the holidays. We held a mascot campout to teach other troops about mascots. We had 25 mascots visiting and had a wonderful time. Now 3 other troops in our area will be starting the Mascot Exchange program. We will host 9 troops at a Thinking Day Event where we will display our patch collection. We are planning an Earth Day party. We are going to invite some buddy troops to learn about our Earth. We love to sell (and eat) cookies. We are already working on this years sale. Our troop sponsor is "Tillies", the only store in our area that sells Beanie Babies, which MS Jan just loves to collects. We will be having a lot of Cookie booths there. As we say "Leaders Rock and Girls Rule". If there are any problems or any questions just let me know. ![]() Troop 513 troop513@email.com |
