| GILLY GUPPY | |

The
children can be Gilly Guppy, making motions with their legs and using
their arms as side fins. After trying the actions, the children can repeat
this verse whenever the name Gilly is said: "Glup, glup, gloop, gloop, gobble, gobble, good. I swim all day, I swim all night, to find a little food." |
| Gilly
Guppy was slowly gliding through her home, an aquarium
tank, using only her tail to swim, flicking it back and forth.
She loved to swim! Gilly moved faster now,
turning about at her middle, using her side fins to balance
and guide her. She continued to move through the tank in the same
manner until she noticed a change in the movement of the water. Gilly
stopped and looked up. Food! A person
was dropping fish food flakes on the water surface. With the quick
flick of her tail she darted upward and
gulped at the flakes, swallowing her fill. After eating, a black molly and a swordtail decided to play a game of tag. The swordtail glided at Gilly with a flick of the tail and moved his side fins back and forth. He touched the surprised Gilly, who turned around quickly and joined in the fun. She chased another guppy, then a rosy barb but had no luck. Gilly swam near the huge round masterly angelfish and tagged him. The angelfish turned suddenly to face her with anger in his eyes. He was not playing and did not appreciate being disturbed. Gilly, realizing her mistake, slowly began swimming backward, moving her side fins in circles, trying to get out of his view. He darted at her, hoping to nip her side and teach her a lesson - he was ruler of the aquarium. The poor guppy turned quickly, bending at the middle, and dashed to the back of the tank where the seaweed would hide her. Gilly stopped for a second to catch her breath; she opened and closed her mouth to swallow air in the water and moved her gills (shrugging shoulders). Fish swallow water and it passes over the gills to pick up the air. The angelfish tired of the chase, turned and swam away. Gilly relaxed. She was safe! | |
