A WINTER DAY

The children can pantomime the activities or create their own winter day fun.
Tim and Jim were sleeping in their warm beds when the alarm rang. The children popped their heads up, rubbed their eyes and yawned. They stood up and stretched; standing on their tip toes they reached up. Then they bent over and touched their toes. Mother was calling them for breakfast so Tim and Jim hurried. First they put on their shirts and buttoned them carefully. Next came slacks, socks, and shoes. The boys raced into the bathroom to brush their teeth and comb their hair. Tim and Jim scampered down the stairs and sat down at the kitchen table to eat hot cereal and drink orange juice. It had snowed six inches the night before, so quickly the boys put on their boots, coats, stocking caps, scarves, and mittens and out the door they went. The snow was so deep the boys had to pick their feet up high as they marched. They decided to go sledding so Tim and Jim ran to the nearest hill, dragging their sleds behind them. The boys reached the hill and sat down on the sled. What fun as they flew down the slope! Tim fell off as they hit a bump. He got up and shook off all the snow from his clothes. After sledding most of the morning, the children skipped home to get their skates.

It was a long walk to the ice pond because Jim stopped to lay down in the snow and spread his arms and legs to make snow angels. Tim picked up some snow, packing it hard in his mittens to throw at a nearby tree. The pond was crowded but the boys had fun skating around and around. Watch out! Down they both went! Carefully they tried to help each other up. Jim pulled Tim back down on the slippery ice and Tim held Jim down. Finally they slowly crawled on hands and knees to the side of the pond, and steadying their skates on the snow, they raised the rest of their bodies up. After all this Tim and Jim were cold, so they skated to the warming benches to sit by the fire. They rubbed their hands together and patted their arms to stop the shivering.

Slowly the boys untied their skates and began marching home. As they entered the house they stomped the snow and ice from their boots, pulled off wet mittens, hats, scarves, and unbuttoned their coats. They hung everything up to dry. Tim and Jim sat in front of a crackling fireplace to warm themselves and drink hot chocolate. It had been a busy winter day!
