I have chosen to do this page now because February is Black History month.
I would like to highlight a couple of the people who have been an influence in my
life and have made wonderful contributions to society.

I will not be dwelling on the negative aspects of our history.
We will never forget but I for one, am ready to move on and
into the new millenium.~ :)

First and farmost is a woman who's courage I admire greatly.

Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was born a slave in 1821 near the eastern shore of Maryland.
When she heard that her master's property would be sold ,she escaped to freedom.
in Pensylvania. When she discovered what it was to be free,
she wanted to help other people to freedom.
She made at least fifteen trips to the south and lead at least 300 people to freedom.
She was given the name "Black Moses" as she led her people to freedom.

THE BLACK FAMILY PLEDGE

by Dr. Maya Angelou

BECAUSE, we have forgotten our ancestors, our children no longer give us honor.
BECAUSE, we have lost the path our ancestors cleared kneeling in perilous undergrowth, our children cannot find their way.
BECAUSE, we have banished the God of our ancestors, our children cannot pray.
BECAUSE, the old wails of our ancestors have faded beyond our hearing, our children cannot hear us crying.
BECAUSE, we have abandoned our wisdom of mothering and fathering, our befuddled children give birth to children they neither want nor understand.
BECAUSE, we have forgotten how to love, the adversary is within our gates, and holds us up to the mirror of the world shouting, "Regard the loveless."
THEREFORE, we pledge to bind ourselves to one another, to embrace our lowliest, to keep company with our loneliest, to educate our illiterate, to feed our starving, to clothe our ragged, to do all good things, knowing that we are more than keepers of our brothers and sisters.

WE ARE OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

IN HONOR of those who toiled and implored God with golden tongues and in gratitude to the same God who brought us out of hopeless desolation, we make this pledge.

The Raok Group's TLC Committee has made a wonderful page celebrating our rich culture.
It is packed with history and well worth the visit.

Although as I've said this page is not to dwell on a dark past
those days are still apart of the Black American History.
Take a realistic look yourselves and witness where and how it all began.
