The practice of giving or assigning names to Angels has long been condemed by many religious sectors. Some Churches have gone to great lengths to prevent this practice, with little success. While most all religions openly acknowledge and accept the names mentioned in the Scriptures (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel), many have passed decrees against the practice.
The origin of this practice is not discussed at any length in the literature of Angels. But what mention there does seem to be, suggests that it is based on superstition. Many of the names are borrowed from the Jews, are invented arbitrarly, or have been chosen our of ridicule.
I have included this section simply to illistrate the commonality of this practice. It is not a statement in any form as to my personal religious beliefs.
