Sweet Phoebe is sitting pretty now, enjoying a life of love and security,
but this was not always the case. Once, she was on the streets, starving
and cold until she was lucky enough to be rescued by the local Humane Society.
She spent three months there warm, safe and fed but she knew she wasn't
home. She was frightened by the noise and strange smells and tried her best
to hide in the back of her cage to feel secure. Although she's been safe
and secure for a long time now, it took a long time for Phoebe to really
believe it. Her trust in us is a wonderful gift because we know how difficult
it was for her to give it. We are so thankful to have Phoebe in our lives
and are glad that Jan Shepherd and Jennifer at the Champaign County Humane
Society encouraged us in our decision to adopt the kitty who most needed
us (rather than getting a kitten). I believe that shelter pets (and other
rescues) make such good pets because they do seem to know that they've been
rescued. Watching Phoebe blossom from her former terrified self into the
wonderfully playful and affectionate kitty that she is now has been such
a joy!
So, as Boomer says below:

your pets!!
