Adolph Hansen Family
Adolph & Sophia Hansen with their daughter Sophie, came to the United States 17 May 1867, sailing on the steamer Saxonia and landing in New York. They made their way to Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa to be reunited with their two sons Thomas and Peter. Thomas and Peter were already here as Thomas was married in Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa in 9 Feb 1867. It is said that Thomas and Peter came to the United States with the oldest of the Willrodt sons to avoid the German Army but I have yet to find them on a passenger list. The Hansen family bought 160 acres in Scott County near Eldridge and farmed there until the 1880's. After the death of their parents, Thomas, Peter and Sophie moved away from Iowa but didn't sell the farm until after the death of Peter in a wagon accident in Granada, Prowell Co., CO in 1906.
Adolph Hansen was born 12 Sep 1816 in Dörpum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. On 30 Jul 1840, at the church in Bordelum, he married Sophia Catharina Ketelsen. Sophia was born 5 Sep 1812 in Vollstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Adolph and Sophia had four children, Thomas Christian born 4 Mar 1841 and died 3 Feb 1842, Thomas Christian born 12 Nov 1842, Peter Ketel born 1 Apr 1845 and Sophia Catharina born 8 Dec 1847. All four of the children were born in Högel, Schleswig- Holstein, Germany. Adolph died 21 Sep 1883 and Sophia died 5 Oct 1876. Both are buried at Pinehill Cemetery, Davenport, Scott Co., IA. Peter never married and died in a wagon accident in Granada, CO 8 Sep 1906. Thomas had his body brought back to be buried with his parents. Sophia married Henry Meyer 29 Sep 1869 in Davenport, Scott Co., IA. She died 24 Jul 1910 and is buried at Pinehill Cemetery near her parents.
