From This Day
It was from the rugged timbers that they made that cruel cross
But the cross was only temporarily stood
Amid the crowd on Golgotha's Hill it only served to show
That Jesus did the things He said He would
That rugged wood was just a cross to make the way for all
Where Jesus suffered, bled and died, there He gave His life
John 3:16 tells all it means to gain eternal life
And then some golden daybreak will end our earthly strife
The crowd had gathered at the foot of the cross that day
The soldiers beat and mocked my Lord, others bowed to pray
But He knew that all His suffering was to wash our sins away
When the clouds had gathered, here's what they heard Him say
He told the thief beside Him, You'll be in paradise today
"Father, it is finished, He then gave up the ghost
They may have beat and stoned Him, spit upon His brow
But from this day, some daybreak, we'll join that heavenly host
My Lord said,
"Father, it is finished, He then gave up the ghost
But from this day, some daybreak, we'll join that heavenly host
