Welcome to my Asperger's Syndrome Page. My 9 year old son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in the summer of 1998. We had concerns about him for about 2 years before the diagnosis, but since he was our oldest, we did not have any one else to compare his development too. Many people suggested that he had ADHD and even a few suggested autism. Finally , I took him to the pediatrician and expressed my concerns. Some of my concerns were that he didn't seem to have social skills to play with other children. He was always in his own world doing things his own way that he didn't care if the other children were joining him or not. He also would not say people's names (except a very few close family and friends). He also had no ability to control his temper. He is very intellegent. In fact he can tell you more about the weather than most adults I know. There are so many more concerns we had, but those are just a few. The pediatrician then referred us to have a psychological evaluation done which we did. We went on to a neuropsychologist and he diagnosed him as having Asperger's Syndrome. He said that this is a new diagnosis and there is not a lot of information available. We tried several different medications (tofranil, zoloft, adderall) none of which worked. In fact, they all seemd to make the problems worse. We are currently trying the Feingold Diet. With this diet, you eliminate all artificial colors, preservatives, flavors, etc. The diet is sometimes not easy to follow, but it does help! I wanted to create this site to give other's links to some of the helpful information that is out there. I have started an e-mail loop for moms who homeschool their children with Asperger's Syndrome.
