Art Center Activities

The Art Center is my only true "center." It is filled with as many art materials as possible, stored as neatly as possible! I find that the boxes with little compartments (sold as "floss-organizers" at craft stores) are a wonderful way to keep small materials in order. I use one box for small balls of yarn, another for wiggle eyes and sequins, another for small wood scraps, and another for beads, etc. etc.

Here are some of the art area assignments that are included on the planning papers:

    Collage
Get a piece of colored paper from the art area. Choose ten different items to glue on the paper. You may also draw on the paper! Put the collage on the drying rack. Remember to take it home TOMORROW!

    Three Dimensions
Use materials in the art area to make two different flowers. Make one flat (two-dimensional) and one that is NOT flat (three-dimensional). Show these to your teacher.

    Cards
Use materials in the art area to make a card for someone. Show your card to your teacher, so she can mark your planning paper.

    Duplicating Gel
    Follow these directions carefully:
    1. Fold a piece of white paper.
    2. Use markers. Draw a picture on ONE SIDE of the paper.
    3. Use a paintbrush to spread duplicating gel on the other side of the paper.
    4. Close the paper. Pat it all over.
    5. Open the paper.
    6. Put the paper on the drying rack. Make sure it is OPEN!
