Imus Town, Cavite Province, Region IV, Philippines
Imus was established as a municipailty in 1795. The name IMUS was derived from the Tagalog word "imos" signifying the part of the land between two rivers joined almost like an arch. Some people of the town theorized that the name Imus is a contraction of the latin word Infimus meaning "lowlands." Legends, however, have two different versions of how Imus got its name. The first version refers to the time when many Spanish soldiers tok refuge in a certain house in which they they lived in great style. When the Spaniards left, many Filipinos who came into the house found "centimus" and from this word they coined Imus. the other legend says that Imus was derived from the word "limus." The word was a title of a Tagalog which was heard by a Spaniard being sung to a child.
