Old elephants go to the crater to retire.
Elephants are also safe from poachers in the crater.
Elephants are amazingly quiet when they walk. I was camped near Lake
Kariba and
went for a walk at dusk down a dry river bed looking for hippos.
(I don't know what I would have done if I'd found one!)
On the way back it grew dark and, while shining the torch around to
find my way, I nearly walked into an elephant! I didn't hear it coming!
