| We departed from Wisma Gadjah Guesthouse at 11 a.m. by taxi, flew from Yogyakarta to Jakarta in about 50 minutes, collected Paul's bag which we had airfreighted from Bali, then went on by taxi to Hotel Kartika Chandra in Jakarta's "Golden Triangle" |

We had been booked into Kartika Chandra by my former Naval Academy friend Tjipto. The Hotel is located on a busy highway with overpasses and fancy buildings, but very nearby are tranquil and rustic scenes beyond belief .The contrast is overwhelming and most surprising. We liked and recommend Hoka Hoka Bento, the Japanese Restaurant nextdoor |

| Meeting again with my former (1950/2) Dutch Naval Academy mate Tjipto and his wife Toetie, who I also visited in 1978 and 1988. They took us for a succulent Chinese dinner on Friday night, and he showed us around the harbor on Saturday morning before ...... |

| ..the next culinary event, Sat. afternoon: "RIJSTTAFEL"
with some of our other classmates, by way of prehearsal for the official 50th Anniversary
in Holland in Sept. 2000. Believe it or not, after that meal we still had dinner with
a new friend, Dr. Djati, while late the next afternoon we caught up with Hardjono who had missed out on the rijsttafel, and said our goodbyes to Tjipto and Toetie.

|
| We had asked which buses/minis to take to and from Ancol, and were helped very politely; Paul seems to get accustomed to this type of local transportation, cheap, fast and "cosy". I tried to see if we could take a train from Kota station to Merdeka Square, but gave up and took a bemo. Not only did we see Sukarno's last ...monument Monas, but also walked through the Jaksa neighborhood where I had stayed in 1978 and
1988.

We drank goodbyes to Haryono and our gracious hosts
Tjipto and Toetie, had a last quick dinner at Bento (cheaper than the ChinDin at Mulia and rijsttafel at Sahid), and took a taxi to the Airport to embark on our lengthy homeward trip via Seoul and the International Dateline to New York, then on to Philadelphia...
