Kos is an island of majestic beauty, lying in the center of the Dodecanese chain in
the Aegean Sea. ("Dodecanese" in Greek means "twelve islands"). Lying north
west of Rhodes and south east of continental Greece, Kos is the third largest of the Dodecanese Islands after Rhodes and Karpathos.
Kos is basically a large, long narrow plain and measures 290.27 square kilometers,
with the obvious exception of a mountainous region in the north west of the island.
This region comprises of a series of peaks, the tallest of which is Dikaio Christo (which
in Greek means "The Just Christ"). A castle of the Knights of the Order of St. John
still survives on one of the many peaks of Dikaio near Thimiana.
Kos is thought to have been the birthplace of the physician Hippocrates.

There are a lot of hotels on the island. There are hotels directly at the beach and
there are hotels in the cities. The nice thing about restaurants in Greece is that you
can go take a look in the kitchen before you decide what to eat. If you want more information about hotel and restaurants go check out the link below.

We booked a last minute trip and stayed at the Oceanis Beach Resort.

Exploring the island is simple you can rent a car, a scooter or even a bicycle.

We had rented a scooter for a week and drove around the island seeing
beautiful things and places.

Harbour of Kamari, an old
fishing place.

The mill of Kefalos, they still grind
here, people from the village come
to collect the flower and bake bread
    in there self made ovens.

The harbour of Kos city.

The museum of Kos is at the center of the city. There are a lot of beautiful statues and important archeological findings. There's also a mosaic from the second or third
century after Christ.

L. Lavrendi discoverd the Odeon at excavations in 1929 in remarkable good conditions. Many statues where found here including the one of Hippocrates.
And of course we went to a beach. It was a very small beach with a lot of rocks; it was very close to the hotel and real quiet. Most of the tourists go to the larger beaches or the beaches at the hotels.

It was to cold to swim but it was real nice just to lie in the sun and relax a little.

Kos was the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of medicine who lived on the island in the fourth century. It was after his death that the people of Kos built the Aesclepeion, named for the God Aesclepios, which became a hospital that was known throughout the Greek world and spread the healing methods of Hippocrates.

The Castle of the Knights of Saint John, with its double wall and moat dominates the
harbor. The castle is linked by a bridge to the square where Hippocrates Platanos
tree stands where he supposedly used to teach.

West excavation area.

The inland of Kos is beautiful we saw a Greek land turtle. There are also some
sheepherders on the island.

A day trip to Kalymnos.

Kalymnos is widely known as the sponge fishers’ island, since such a large portion of the population is engaged in this age-old occupation.
An old church dedicated to Christ the Savior adorns the waterfront. It is decorated with frescoes and valuable icons.

Our last day we relaxed at the hotel. It has been a great vacation.
