Amsterdam - March 31, 1999
We flew into Amsterdam for an 8 hour layover. I suppose if
we had to have a layover, Amsterdam is a pretty good place to do it. One of my first
impressions was the very quick customs check as we left the airport. I guess Amsterdam
figures they probably have things much worse than what we could be bringing in, so
whats the point. After storing most of our bags in a locker, we headed out to the
city center to kill a few hours. Considering it was sometime in the early am according to
our bodies, we did pretty well staying awake. The only exception was when I crashed for an
hour in an outdoor plaza by a huge monument with all of the other drifters. It was an
absolutely beautiful day, two guys started playing their guitars behind us and we just
laid there for awhile and chilled out.
We did walk around quite a bit and passed many "coffee
houses" but decided against going in any during this trip. We plan to go back to
Amsterdam with friends this summer so we decided to leave those experiences for then.
Plus, considering we were going to a very strict Muslim country next, it might not be the
wisest thing to do. Later that evening, we boarded a Transavia flight towards our first
official destination: Casablanca.
