Who We Are:
Kelly
Kelly's penchant for travel began during typical
family vacations--before each one she would eagerly complete a "puzzle map" of
the US and count the states she would cross enroute (the more the better). The best part
was seeing how different the places were from Illinois. She would also compile
detailed-yet-sparse packing lists with her sister.
Her first trip outside North America occurred when
she was 17; it too was with her family as her high school's German Class Trip was canceled
due to some political brouhaha. She was mesmerized by Europe and hooked on the
experience. She returned in 1989 to study in Vienna, and backpacked independently
around much of the continent including Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Hungary.
After entering the Real World, she was able to
squeeze in trips to England, Scotland, and Portugal for pleasure, and several trips to
Germany and Switzerland for work. She finally realized that with 2 weeks of vacation a
year, she would have to live to be 125 to see all the places she wanted to see...or take a
year off.
So she said good-bye to close friends and family, a
loft in the artsy bucktown neigborhood, and a job marketing social studies products for
K-12 students. Her hope for this formata is to move with her heart, not only her feet.
Her other passions are anything Roxy Music/Bryan
Ferry, foreign/art films, and reading mysteries and travelogues (duh!). She is an
Astanga/Power Yoga junkie, and hopes to study in India. The things she will miss most
about Chicago are her friends, her cat, her family, Sherwyn's Health Food store, WXRT, and
the Music Box Theatre. She is known for having "a mind for useless trivia" and
readily recalls inane facts about people.
"The time is right, it's getting late, it's
now or never don't hesitate...you might as well live. Oh, the thrill of it all."
