137km South East of Melboure lies Phillip Island, a popular holiday resort.
Main attractions are the excellent surf beaches and the famous but now sadly commercial "Fairy Penguin Parade"
The Island is accessable by car via a bridge which runs from San Remo to Newhaven.
Fairy Penguins
If you are on the island in the eveing, make your way down to the south-West area called Summerland Beach where the very "cute" fairy penguins do their "parade". They emerge from the sea and waddle their little way back up the beach and back to their nests.
You should be able to see them all year round although during the summer months the numbers do tend to swell, as do the number of people wishing to see them. Strict rules not allowing camera flashes are inforce as not to scare the baby penguins.
With the large numbers of tourists, it can be advantageous to book ahead and make sure you dont miss out, you can contact the nature reserve on
