Cairns

Cairns is the capital of the far north and the best known city on the Queensland coast. Cairns is now established as one of the most popular travel destinations.

Cairns is centre for a whole host of activities, not just scuba diving but white water rafting, canoeing, horse riding and of course tha latest in danger rides, ie: bungee jumping and sky diving.

Cairns marks the end of the Bruce Highway and railway line from Brisbaine.
The town was formed in 1876as a beachead in the mangroves, it was intended as a port for the Hodgkinson River Gold field located 100km inland.

One thing you will notice when you arrive in Cairns is the humidity, Its sure knocks you back and does take some getting used to. Nights also are very sticky so try choose a hostell with air conditioning and you'll sleep much better.
Most of the decent hostells will offer this along with an evening meal voucher. This idea is great but is usually in a pub and more often than not turns into long night of drinking! (so whats the problem I hear you say?)

Just out of Cairns are some wonderful walks, scenery and tropical rain forrests with an array of wild life on display

The Flying Doctors

A bus ride from Cairns is the Flying doctors centre (well worth a trip out there)
Here is a museum about how the flying doctors work and operate, you can see a fascinating video an dhear all abotu the wonderful work these guys do and the vital support they provie to people in the bush.
