ULURU AYERS ROCK

The world famous Ayres Rock is some 3.6km long and a towering 348 m tall and 2 thirds of the rock actually lies beneath the sand.
The rock is well known for its changing colour as the sun rises and sets each day.
The whole area of the Uluru National Park is of great cultural significance, not only to the local Angangu Aboriginal trobe but to all Australians who see this as a major feature point of their country.
There are many walks around the base of Uluru. The walk around who whole rock can take some 5 hours to complete the 9km treck. Most people arrive and simply underestimate the size of it and in the blistering heat experienced there can often cause sun stroke and heat exhaustion.
Those who decide to tackle climbing the rock should do so at their own risk and do not ignore the saftley regulations. It will usually take you about 2 hours to reach the top and most tours will start very early in the morning, otherwise it simply gets too hot and then the rock will be closed by rangers.
Please note that although it is against Aboriginal wishes that people climb the rock, the land owners accept if this was stopped there would be far fewer tourists here, so please respect the area when you visit.
