Garuda
Garuda is a mythical bird and has a pr eminent place among Hindu Gods and
in the poeple's veneration. It's said that it was Garuda to bring the Fire-Agni on the earth.
He is represented as a big white-necked eagle, but
in the temples his images are with a human trunk. In all Vaishnavaite temples in front
of the image of Vishnu is erected a stone flag with Garuda.
He is the Vishnu's vahana (vehicle), but, like a God, he has other names:
- Amrtaharana
- Khagesvara
- Nagantaka = destroyer of snakes
- Raktapaksha
- Sarparati
- Sitanana = white face
- Suparna
- Suvarnakaya
- Vinayaka = destroyer of obstacles
- Tarksya
- Vihangama
