Indonesia

Indonesia had long figured in our travel plans. For different reasons, other exotic and exciting places have been our goals. However, in the winter of 1998/99, plans about a long and complicated journey in Irian Jaya and Sulawesi matured. Again inspired by others, this time a New York couple we met in Abercrombie & Kent's Gorilla Camp in Bwindi, Uganda.

When we considered the time and the expense of such a journey, so soon after the big East African Odyssey, we decided to cut our ambitions down and concentrate on a 4 week journey overland from Jakarta to Bali.

We already had found a tour operator in Jakarta, who seemed very ambitious and reliable, Adventure Indonesia, and who had supplied us with lots of stuff for thought about Irian Jaya. We had also been seriously considering other tour operators who seem equally reliable, Indonesia Adventures, whose website I cannot relocate and Indonesia Online Adventure Travel. In the end, however, we had to choose and the choice was Adventure Indonesia.
