The orange sunset accompanied by howling greenlandic sledge dogs is slowly replaced
by northern lights flickering across the sky of the otherwise pitch black polar night.
Temperatures that'll make the snow scream under your boots, help form ice crystals in
the corners of your eyes, make your nose bleed and force clouds of steam up from the
frigid fiords. An immense wilderness lying in wait just outside your door step - deep
fiords surrounded by snow covered mountains - giant mountains - but not able to hide the
gleaming huge ice cap in the distance. This is what I saw here.
As I've passed Greenland several times on my way to LAX, I wanted to see it from ground
level and was able to do so in November 99 when I was researching the last details for my
thesis. I was back here in november 2000 and still have a few plans about a future trip.
