In 1789 liut. William Bligh was chased through the reef filled Yasawa Sea by two
canoes full of warriors. Bligh and the loyalists from the Mutiny on the Bounty were
sailing in the launch and were saved only by a sudden wind. They were lucky - the
Feejeeans (their name then) and in particular the Yasawans were later recognized
as the most fierce cannibals of the South Seas. When Bligh escaped the locals
feasted on the two returning canoe captains.

Meanwhile Fletcher Christian had returned to Tahiti and Pitcairn was still a peaceful
place hundreds of miles from the location reported to the Admiralty by Captain
Catered of the Swallow in 1767.

I wonder if Bligh would believe that these islands would become one of the most
hospitable places known. It's a fact though that you'll be met by smiles, "Bula"-
greetings and friendliness by almost everybody among these physically huge people.
