![]() The Plaza Atrium on Regal Princess
A PARNAMI Cruise Page
The Plaza Atrium is one of several onboard areas receiving extensive attention during the 2000 renovations. Where, before, the area tended towards being cold in feel and stark in appearance, the Atrium, now, is quite warm and appealing, a truly lovely area for people watching and conversing with friends. Spanning three levels, the Plaza contains none of the gimmickry used in most such areas today. There are no soaring glass elevators, no street performers, no multilevel massive pieces of art. In their places, are a beautifully designed and maintained, now Princess trademark, woven rug providing the focal point of the Plaza, surrounded by comfortably spaced chair groupings. Lighting, mostly, is indirect and, while bright enough for comfort, is easy on the eyes. Leave your sunglasses in the cabin!
Spanning two decks at the aft end of the Plaza, is Regal's lovely grand staircase. Immediately adjacent to the marble lower landing, on both sides, are marble ponds with running water spilling over two small water falls onto the rock garden just below. The sound of the flowing water is, ahh..just so good, you may be tempted to camp out, falling asleep listening to it.
Atop the first landing passengers find a larger waterfall, with the water running down along glass filaments onto the rock filled base. The filaments, through the properties of water tension direct the water directly into the base instead allowing droplets to splash onto the floor beside it. Yes, here, the water is able to be turned on even with the ship at sea!
A grand piano occupies the forward space of the Plaza, with soothing rhythms played several times throughout the day. Have no fear, if you happen to be seated hear, relaxing, you'll not be chased away by raucous music!
While the Plaza Atrium is not the center of activity through which everyone passes during the course of a day as are the Centrums on the Royal Caribbean ships, it is a busy area and a wonderful location for passengers to arrange to meet with their on board friends.
