International Show Lounge on Regal Princess

A PARNAMI Cruise Page

Regal Princess' Show Lounge is located forward on Promenade and Dolphin decks.   Having been designed in the latter part of the 80's, Regal Princess reflects the growing popularity for two story show lounges with balconies.   She does show her age in the fact that this is a show lounge, and not a theater, the typical arrangement today.  There is no formal stage area, no proscenium arch.  Instead, a raised dance floor serves as the stage during performances.  The effect is to bring the performance into the audience, with a theater in the round type feel to them, a feel I find more engaging, if more limiting as to sets and staging.  It's a nice change of pace, anyway.

Lower level seating is tiered in the rear with long banquettes stretching along the entire curve of the horseshoe shape.   Spacious fore/aft spacing provides more than adequate access to seating without the need to climb and crawl over passengers already seated.

The front four rows of seats consist of upholstered buckets which, often, are moved about by passengers seeking to form large groupings of friends.  Such groupings have the potential of being annoying to surrounding guests attempting to watch the show over the din of the "friends" but, such is the nature of the show lounge versus of the theater.
For those passengers utilizing the dance floor prior to the evening's show, be forewarned, during moderately rough seas, those few steps up can become quite hazardous, particularly for the elderly or marginally ambulatory.   Personally, I've witnessed seniors who while appearing adept on the dance floor, strained with difficulty when tackling those steps down to their seats.

Balcony seating provides the same banquettes as are provided on the lower level.   Overall, I was impressed with the sight lines provided up there, particularly when remembering back to those provided on former sister, the original Star Princess.

There are some support pillars spaced around the room that have the potential of ruining views.  Don't sit behind them!!  Duh!  They're not too difficult to avoid.
