The Library and Card Room on Regal Princess

A PARNAMI Cruise Page

Regal Princess' Library and Card Rooms are located forward on Dolphin Deck, in similar locations straddling both entrances to the balcony level of the International Show Lounge.

To the right, starboard side, passengers find the paneled library, containing a good selection of 1600 books for borrowing, researching ports of call, and, for cheating on trivia questions.  Bucket chairs surround small table groupings in arrangements more suited to a cocktail lounge environment than for comfortably curling up with a good book.   Poor lighting discourages passengers from actually reading their selections here, the only sources being ceiling mounted florescents.  There are no "work" tables or writing desks for those seeking to do more serious research.  Princess, joining with most lines today, has moved away from open libraries with "honor" borrowing to a moderated one, with shelves locked when no staff is assigned to sign books out.    I think, if they need to lock up the books for fear of their being stolen by passengers; they're marketing to the wrong market segments!  Typical hours of operation are generous, running from 9 am until 10 PM each day.

Port side is found the Card Room consisting of 6 felt topped card tables and a locked cabinet containing a selection of board games and decks of cards.   For those interested, Regal Princess does schedule informal poker games in the Card Room, but be careful!  The operative word: "Informal" means that passengers, and their money,  are on their own.    The room lacks windows and can tend to make some passengers feel a bit "closed in."   One point of interest making the Card Room worth checking out is the highly detailed model of Regal Princess, crafted entirely out of sugar.
