Images Health & Beauty Spa on Regal Princess
and Summation

A PARNAMI Cruise Page

In telling testimony to the dated design of Regal Princess, witness the archaic positioning of her fitness facilities.  At a time when designers of every new construction for a decade prior had taken
pains to position these facilities in prized locations where patrons could enjoy sea vistas while working off those excess calories gained over the previous day's dinner.  Regal Princess, on the other hand, relegated them to the "dungeon" on the lowermost level, lacking even the barest glint of natural light, let alone breathtaking views of passing scenery.  Even getting here is a chore, with just the mid ship bank of elevators/stairs providing access.  This is a facility that is here, solely so Princess can make the claim of having it.  Obviously, the original designers never even expected passengers to find, let alone use it!

But, use it they do!  During peak periods, the gym sees almost enough energy being expended to power the ship, with treadmills and stationary bikes going full tilt through most of the day.   The room containing the machines, although somewhat small, through the use of mirrored walls, feels spacious, and multiplies the sense of huge amounts of expended energy.  A small aerobic studio immediately adjoins the gym, also with mirrored walls lending spaciousness in feel while permitting the exerciser to witness and adjust his form.

Classes and activities are planned throughout the day, but, I understand Princess, unwisely, has since disbanded its popular Cruisercise program and turned over operation to those zany "Steiner girls" who also operate the spa.  I suspect this will lead to passengers soon being charged for classes, previously, provided for free.  Sad!

Speaking of Steiner, Images health and beauty spa shares the corresponding space on port side.  The facility is typical, albeit sans the wonderful views customers typically enjoy while being coiffed and pampered.  Steam rooms and sauna are available for complimentary use.  They're still not air conditioned!  UGH!
