For anyone who's ever walked down Main Street USA in a Disney Theme park and gazed up in longing to book one of those "rooms" available above the shops, here's your opportunity! A promenade view cabin on Voyager of the Seas is like living above Main Street USA! People watching from one of the 138 rooms that overlook the Royal Promenade is guaranteed to provide hours of entertainment. Royal Promenade is the heart of the ship, and like in Disney Parks, everyone passes through and by it several times during the course of the day. It is THE place to be on Voyager, and, these rooms provide a window on the goings on below.
Inside rooms with a view were first considered on Royal Caribbean several years ago while brainstorming the plans and features for Legend of the Seas. The idea died due to the limited width of the ship and the close proximity of the resulting cabins. With Voyager and her great width, too wide to pass through the Panama Canal, the idea resurfaced, WITH A VENGENCE! Here, for the first time on a Cruise Liner, are interior cabins with bay windows and views looking out and down among the decks below. (The idea, previously, had appeared on one or two European ferryboats but never on anything approaching the scale of Voyager!)
Parades, Bands, Street Characters, Clowns, Jugglers, stilt walkers, and more pass by your window with regularity. Of course, with Royal Promenade tending to become quite lively at night, particularly during parade times, things can tend to get a bit noisy, but, hey, what are you doing trying to sleep when there's a parade passing by? Things do settle down after midnight, so you won't go sleepless. Lower levels, mid-ship will receive more sound than those located higher up and towards the Centrum's. Speakers broadcast between the cabins located on levels 6 and 7. Windows are clear glass, and lack privacy protection. If you don't wish to be part of the photo collection of your fellow cruisers, remember, when undressed, CLOSE YOUR CURTAIN! There was discussion about adding privacy glass, but, since the Royal Promenade tends to be a bit dimly lit at night, such glass would block the views, and reduce the attractiveness of the cabins.
Cabins are comfortably sized at 157 square feet, and include two twin beds which may be placed together creating one, seamless, "almost" king sized. Beds are larger than are those on any other Royal Caribbean ship. Bottoms of the mattresses are curved, facilitating movement through the cabin. Two love seats provide a seating area adjacent the bow window.
Typical cabin amenities include: a clamshell door shower stall, providing more room than is typical for RCI and, lacking the "affectionate" curtains to which we have grown accustomed. These curved sliding doors work well, and provide the novelty of being able to recover soap dropped without vacating the stall. For the first time on a Royal Caribbean ship, hair dryers are provided, hardwired in one of the dresser drawers. Powerful, they lack a constant on feature, thus requiring constant pressure on the "power" button. A 19-inch TV and mini bar/refrigerator round out the features.
The mini bar occupies all of the available space in the refrigerator. Each item rests against a pressure sensitive switch. Remove it, and you bought it! If you wish to use the space for your own things, ask to have it emptied!
