This is a report I've sent out via eMail to a distribution of family and friends relating a weeklong trip I took with a friend to Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts during the first full week in October, 2002. I've modified the original report, and included photographs that I took, both with an Olympus digital camera and with my more traditional Pentax Spotmatic (35mm film) cameras that I usually use.
On Friday, October 4, with my friend Patti, we boarded a United Airlines flight out of Oakland Airport for Dulles - a red-eye. We had both requested frequent flyer mileage upgrades, without success. While an uneventful trip, I found that the seats haven't gotten any more comfortable (or uncomfortable, for that matter.) We landed without incident at IAD, had to switch terminals, and got on a "puddle jumper" for an hour flight on a Canadair 50-seater to Providence, Rhode Island.
Surprising, I only took 4 rolls of film - 2 each of black-and-white, and color. (I brought 9 unused rolls back!) I did have a digital camera with me, which I used to take 170 pictures, but it took a tumble as I headed back to the Inn on Wednesday. Fortunately, the weather wasn't really conducive to picture taking over the last 2 days, so I didn't miss taking many shots.
