PAOTERE ( the traditional sail-boat harbour )
in UjungPandang-South Sulawesi. Indonesia 
 
 The tribes of Makassar, Bugis and Mandar are famous as sailors. Their sail-boats, since hundreds of years ago have sailed to the isalnd od Madagascar near Africa, Australia and a number of small
 islands in the Pacific Ocean. They are mighty sailors whether during war or peace, with their
 traditional sailboats and their of determining the courses by observing the stars, to predict the
 direction of the wind and the storm by observing the clouds, acquainted with the sea current,depth and dangerous coral -reef areas by smelling the aroma of the sea water.

 PAOTERE  traditional sailboats harbourPaotere is the harbour for the sailbots of the Sulawesi people from all the corners of Indonesia. There are many types of boats can been seen there. Among them are small single sailboats, some others with sails and machine such as the " Pinisi" and " Lambo", and a number of other types. It  is fascinating to observe the scenery of big boat masts next to a mosque and houses on the beach. The harbour labours loading and unloading cargoes and many traditional boats coming and going  in the late afternoon at this harbour.The sceneries would be even more beautiful towards the  sunset with superb panorama of the sun going down the horizon radiating colorful lights as  background
