Council committee agree to Kassam deal

Oxford United are pleased to announce that last night Firoz Kassam acquired the controlling shareholding in the Club from Robin Herd. Mr. Kassam is delighted with the progress that has been made with Oxford City Council regarding the proposed development of the Minchery Farm site. However there are still important issues to be resolved with the City Council before matters can proceed. Mr. Kassam is hopeful that these issues can be settled quickly thus securing the future of the Club.

Malcolm Shotton was delighted with the news that everyone connected to the Club was waiting for:

"From our point of view - the players, the staff and all of the staff, we are absolutely delighted. I know the fans will echo that and it is obviously very good news for the Club". With Mr. Kassam now taking control of the Club, it gives Malcolm chance to start planning for next season: "This is the main thing from my point of view. We have now got a solid base and we can now look forward to going forward. Hopefully we will still be in the First Division - the lads have got the bit between their teeth, the fans are again going to play a massive part in that and we can plan for next season with a lot going for us. The Council have still got a big part to play with the people of Oxford, but as soon as Mr. Kassam comes in and the new stadium is going it is going to be a massive boost for the whole area".
