Oxford City Council's Strategy & Resources Committee
met today to discuss, amongst other things, the proposal put forward by
Firoz Kassam to restart the stadium development at Minchery Farm. FOUL
were given 5 minutes to address the committee before it went into closed
session to discuss the deal itself. Here is
the text of the address from FOUL.
The excellent news is that the S&R Committee agreed to the deal put
forward by Firoz Kassam unmodified. This is a very positive move which now
means the way is clear for Kassam to complete the deal with Robin Herd to
takeover the football club and hopefully be granted the planning
permission for a multiplex cinema at Minchery Farm to finance the stadium
development.
The S&R decision still has to be finally agreed by the full council
meeting on 19th April and we would like to urge as many Oxford United
supporters to attend this meeting which takes place at Oxford Town Hall at
4:00pm. Oxford City Council will also be carrying out a public
consultation exercise which hopefully will give the deal the go-ahead.
This will take the form of a city wide opinion poll and public meetings in
Blackbird Leys and Littlemore. Again it is very important that Oxford
supporters turn out in force for these meetings to ensure the proposal is
agreed to. As soon as we know the dates and venues for these meetings
we'll let you know.
