18/8/98 - As i'm sure you all know, Harry is pretty much restored to full health again, and played on Saturday for the first Leeds match of the UK season... and very nearly scored after just 36 seconds...(pics from match on page 10 of pic gallery) George Graham was not very happy with the 0 - 0 result, and was very disappointed with Harry's performance... he said "Harry is very skilled and I would have expected him to get more involved in the match.. he's a very tallented young player." 6/8/98 - Harry was up and about yesterday (after his injury sustained in Sweeden) at the Leeds United open day... thousands of fans gathered, for free, to watch Leeds having a pre season training and warm up session. Harry was performing quite well, though still not as fast as usual... but it seems he is now fit enough to play again at the start of the season which starts in two weeks. 23/7/98 - Leeds was today anxiously awaiting results of a medical check on Harry. He was carried off in the first half of last nights 5-1 win over Lysekils FF with ankle ligament damage. He was undergoing medical checks all day to ascertain the seriousness of the injury but it looks like he will take no further part in the Sweedish tour. The injury was the result of a very bad tackle. "We'll know more once the swelling goes down, but he's on crutches for the moment, just to keep the weight off it. It was a nasty tackle, but we brought him off straightaway, and packed it with ice. It'll be another 24 hours before we know." said Leeds physio Dave Swift. 21/7/98 - Harry has urged the Australian Soccer association not to select him for "meaningless" friendlies as he seeks to enjoy a unbroken run in the premiership this season. He is concerned that the friction between George Graham and the Socceroos could cost him his place on the Leeds side. Kewell said "If there is an important game I want to be picked (for the Socceroos), but if it is not important there is no need for me to travel all that way back and loose my spot with Leeds." He also said "Players from Australia come over here to further our carrers and if we don't do well over here, we are useless for both countries." On Monday 13th July, the Leeds United players returned to Elland Road for pre-season training. Harry was expected to get an early call to George Graham's office. Graham (Leeds manager) wants to cut down on the amount of times his overseas players are called away from Leeds. There has been an ongoing tug-of-war between Australia and Leeds over Harry. Harry and his father have had talks with the Australian FA, and Graham was keen to see what the outcome was. Graham hopes there will be fewer Australian demands on Harry this season. During June, Harry made personal appearences at shops throughout Australia. At "In Sport" in Sydney on Sat 6th June he was asked by a fan what he was doing in Australia at that time, he replied "Learning some new tricks." So when he returns to Leeds in the new season (98/99), we can look forward to him being bigger and better than ever.. (as if it were possible!!) | |||||||||||||||||
