Oh, you're going
down so hard... faster dammit faster! |
||||
Why I wish I were there at the start to see... to see all the people line in the place, to see the q4m, queue form, but someone has to tap the beer, right? Besides, there was still Bloody Mary from the morning, the celery hardly gnawed at all.
Now realize once again, as in past years, there will be two, count 'em 2, races. There is the hurtley (read hurtle-ley, not hurtly) downhill for the big-ass trophy (with your name), and the messenger challenge for plane tickets to Philly. It being an Olympic year, (and buckets more fun) more were swayed toward hardware. Ne'er to discount getting your name stamped in it.

So there comes a time when most of the shirts are gone from the stack and the new stack is formed of wanton downhillers. No squishy bikes here, this is urban downhill kids; no logs, no erosion ruts, just curbs and potholes, but all the pros know where they are all along the way. |
There is a very unorganized assemblage, some cheat to stay forward, some cheat to stay the hell back, but somehow it all gets togehter in to one big crazy wheeled mass. |

![]() No, race faces guys, no, no, race faces... hey, this is serious.... |
The official DB "viking armored helmet" was once again ceremoniously donned in the downhill, and for the new millenium incendiary devices were expertly attached. The cape as ever omnipresent. |
| We invited all the bad-ass one-speed
downhill bikers we could think of, but only these few
made it into the camera. Coaster brakes rule if you haven't realized, as if you'd ever need them. |
![]() Two wheels good, four wheels bad, skater man. |
![]() Alright, I don't know what kinda high explosives we've got for the start, but please, for your own safety.... |
But it all comes down to just backin' up a little,
buckin' up a little, just gettin' in place, taking your
mark as it were. Steed between, steed between. |
And now we are ready to go. So the hand goes up. |
![]() It is too late for a pee break. Anybody got a light? |
Remember, no biting, no eye-gouging, please.
