Melbourne Storm NRL Premiers 1999!

1999 was the dream year for the Melbourne Storm, which brought them their first premiership after only two years in the competition, lead by five time Premiership player, six-time Grand Finalist, retiring captain Glenn Lazarus. His five premierships were with Canberra in 1989-90, Brisbane in 1992-93 and with the Storm in 1999. He is the first player ever to win three premierships with three different clubs. The Storm trailed 14-0 at half time, only to win 20-18 after a contraversial '3rd umpire' ruled a try to the Storm in the dying minutes of the game. Brett Kimmorley won the medal for best afield in the NRL Grand Final. In Round 4 of the 2000 seson, then Saint George player Anthony Mundine declared the Dragons were the real winners of 1999. The Storm who had lost their first four games of 2000, replied with a 70-10 crushing of the Dragons, much to the record crowd of 25,000 Melbournians' delight.
