Welcome to the Loughborough Students' Union Archery Club homepage. We are situated at Loughborough University, in Leicestershire in the United Kingdom.
Our current membership is just over 50 members drawn from five different sources;
Loughborough University
The club is run by a committee consisting of nine members - voted for by the whole of the club in March each year at the AGM.
We shoot regularly, indoors between September and March, outdoors from April until June.![]()
The club keeps a record of the best scores shot by its members (as well as some other records). This is your chance to see how well they shoot by clicking here.
The BUTTS tournament was originated in 1995 by Birmingham University Archery Club (hence the name). It was set up with the idea of providing more competition experience for all the members of the participating clubs as well as providing a social environment in which to have some fun. The tournament consists of six individual competitions, each hosted by one of the six competing university archery clubs. The universities involved are;
Birmingham, Cambridge, Loughborough, Nottingham, Oxford and Warwick.
The competitions usually take the form of an indoor Portsmouth round (outdoor in Cambridge's case!). Each university takes two teams - an experienced team and a novice team. A novice is considered to be someone who has joined the archery club this academic year and has not shot previously. This allows beginners to compete against other people of the same ability in competition. At the end of each competition the following prizes are awarded;
Top experienced team - (Biggest total of any four highest scoring archers from each university).
Top novice team - (Biggest total of four highest scoring novice archers from each university).
Top three gents - top three scores from all the blokes shooting.
Top three ladies - Top three scores from all the ladies shooting.
Top three novices - Top three scores from all the novices shooting.
Also awarded is the sacrificial Mars bar. This is presented by Birmingham's team captain to the member of the opposite sex that scored closest to 222.
The previous years turned out like this (Unless you know differently!!)
