This week is just going to be a couple of my thoughts on the subject of wrestling.
Number one: AHAHAHAHAHAH! Austin heel, finally. Catherine is one happy columnist. Maybe there will be some new catch phrases. That would be cool because a lot of people complain that the Rock uses his catchphrases over and over again, but Austin has been using his for longer. So there.
This new alliance between Austin/Vince/Triple H looks interesting because it's going to result in a pretty cool match at some Pay Per View down the road. But one thing I noticed is that lately, whenever a heel turns heel, he doesn't give a reason why. When the Rock joined the Corporation, he cited the 'Die, Rocky, Die!' chants and all the negative signs. Austin made a vague comment about the fans being leeches, but a long drawn out speech would be interesting because it could open a lot of doors. That's not to mention the fact that long, drawn out, interminable speeches seem to be the predominant factor in WWF programming, but that's a column for another week.
When I heard on Raw that Austin was now a heel, my first thought was 'if he makes it through these next two hours without stunning, Vince, it's legit'. Lo and behold, he didn't lay one hand on the owner. Yet a few questions remain: with Rocky's impending departure (so I've heard) who is going to step up to the plate as the face in all of this? Only one answer makes sense and that would be the Undertaker. A return to his Lord of Darkness days would be pretty sweet. But with only the Taker, the odds are pretty crappy. Of course the outnumbered hero winning against all odds is a usual WWF tactic, with the likes of Vince, Austin, Angle, Helmsely and Regal, the odds are just a little implausible.
Chris Jericho seems to be the next likely hero, followed perhaps by Chris Benoit.
All in all, the next few weeks should be very interesting.
On a side note, is anyone else confused about the WWF/WCW situation? Ever since I learned of WCW's existence two years ago and watched a show, I've hated it. Now it's Shane's and I like Shane. When Vince was naming people off to the crowd, I was lost after he said Dustin Runnels. This is going to be a very weird situation for me and others. Would anyone else like to share their opinions on the matter?
