THE EAST DAYTON VIKINGS

WHO ARE THE EAST DAYTON VIKINGS, WHEN WERE THE WE FORMED AND WHO DO WE SERVE?

The East Dayton Vikings  were formed in 1973.  St. Anthony School in East Dayton made a decision to drop their Pee Wee Football Program, so a group of parents decided to form their own organization.   We offer quality-supervised football and cheerleading for third through sixth grade children in the East Dayton Community.  Many of our children are of Appalation and African American descent.  A large percentage of our children come from one-parent homes and live in poverty.  Our program provides a daily outlet for them.

The East Dayton Vikings are a charitable 501 ©(3) organization and contributions to us are tax- deductible.  Our Federal Tax ID number  is 31-0966924.  We are organized as a charitable trust  in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.  Our State of Ohio Charitable Trust Registration Number is 223-85.  As reflected in our mission statement we do not ever discriminate on the basis of race, sex, creed or the ability to pay our nominal registration fee.   No child has ever been turned away from participation because of the family's ability to pay.

WHAT ACTIVITIES DO
THE EAST DAYTON VIKINGS OFFER?

We currently offer Third and Fourth Grade and Fifth and Sixth grade Football.  We also have cheerleading for Third and Fourth and Fifth and Sixth Grade as well.  We also sponsor a Class F baseball team at Washington Park, in East Dayton.  In football and cheerleading, there is one team comprised of Third and Fourth graders and another of Fifth and Sixth Graders.  We are a member of the Miami Valley Youth Football League.  It is a policy of our organization that all children who come to practice will play in all of our games.  The Miami Valley Football League stresses instruction over winning.  Instruction and participation comes first and only after that has been accomplished do we consider the score of the game.

HOW DO THE EAST DAYTON VIKINGS
RAISE FUNDS?

Our $25 registration fee helps to offset some of the enormous costs associated with the administration of our program.  Our annual raffle, fish fry, and donations cover the rest of our expenses.  All children in our program receive a pre-participation physical paid for by our organization.  All children are covered by Excess Medical Coverage in the event a child is injured during participation in games or practices.   All of our adult staff are unpaid volunteers.

ARE THE VIKINGS COACHES QUALIFIED?

You bet they are!! Our coaches attend workshops and clinics.   We screen all potential new coaches to make sure they are qualified to coach football or cheerleading.  We require them to be of moral character.  95 % of all of our coaches have been with us for 10 or more years.   They continue to coach because they care about children.
