Jackie Brown

Jackie Brown
Jackie Brown was born in 1909 in the Ancoats district of "Cottonopolis," England, and began boxing professionally in 1926 at the age of 16. He stood 5 feet, 5 inches and weighed 112 pounds. His career peaked while the flyweight championship was still in dispute in 1932, when he defeated Young Perez in a 13 round knockout on October 31, in Manchester, England. As a result, he was recognized as world flyweight champion by the National Boxing Association. He defended that title five times, until being floored 10 times in two rounds by Scotland's Benny Lynch on September 8, 1935 in Manchester, England. He was still a main-eventer, however, when he joined the British Army four years later at the age of 30. He retired from boxing in 1939. He won 97 of his 129 professional fights, 36 by knockout.
