In 1989 I represented New Zealand OSY at the world champion ships in Japan resulting in a 3rd place position over which boosted my interest and encouraged me to go further in power boating.
In 1993 I was approached by Singha Beer in Thailand offering me the opportunity to work in Thailand as a mechanic boat setup for the Singha Beer Formula One race team. I took up this opportunity in which I spent 4 months in Thailand and Singapore working on the teams boats and traveling to race meetings which gave me experience I could never have gained in New Zealand.
