(From 1980-81 Season...)
A second-year returnee with more talent than his 11-12 record indicates, David adds experienced youth to the Spartan squad. According to Coach T.J. Kerr, it's just a matter of time until "Barnzee" excels. One of the most sought after high school grapplers in the state of California in 1979, he will wrestle at 134-pounds for SJSU. At Watsonville High School, David was a four-year letterman under coaches Willie Yahiro and Gary Garcia. An outstanding senior year saw him take a 1st in the Monterey Bay League, 1st in Region lV, 3rd in CCS culminating with the California State Championship title at 127-pounds. A 19-year-old electronic engineering major, David was named to the Spartan Honor Roll as a scholar-athlete. Born 6-8-61 in Watsonville, Calif.

(From 1981-82 Season...)
After wrestling most of the 1980-81 season in the shadow of Eddie Baza at 134-pounds, David was asked to drop down to 126-pounds after the Spartans lost talented Wayne Jones to injury. Was it worth the cut? Yes, David won his first letter en route to the Pacific Coast Athletic Association title and a trip to the NCAA Championships. With a record of 18-8-1, "Barnzee" greatly improved his freshman record of 11-12 and a 12-7-1 tourney slate. Barnzee placed 6th at the SJSU Mumby Invitational, took 3rd place honors at the Beehive Tourney, and then went on to take the PCAA crown. "David is turning into a leader and is just now starting to explore the potential he has as a wrestler. He's a good one," says Coach T.J. Kerr.

(From 1983-84 Season...)
After a successful season last year, Dave has worked extremely hard in order to get ready for his final year of eligibility at SJSU. Last year he saw such accomplishments as a 2nd place in the Beehive Tournament, 3rd in the Biola Invitational, 6th in the Ceasar's Palace Invitational, and topped his season off with his second PCAA Championship. Dave gave the fans a lot of thrills last year with a 15-2-2 dual record. Continuing his success on through the spring, Dave captured 1st place in both the State Freestyle and Greco Tournaments. "He should pull together his ability as a wrestler and his leadership qualities for a very successful season this year," Coach Kerr says.
