  Hello Team -

Alice Tsai from the office of the President will attend our next practice, Monday, Feb 25, at 8pm. She wants to hear what we're all about and what our concerns are. If enough of you express that you'd like wrestling to become an intercollegiate sport, she will arrange a meeting with SJSU President Dr. Caret.

So, if you guys are serious, make sure you show up Monday by 8pm and be ready to tell Alice how you feel. It's in your hands!

See you next Monday. Don't forget to run this weekend!

Cheers,
Coach Lucas

  Hello Team!

Just a note to remind you that we won't have practice tonight, Friday night or Saturday morning this week (Feb 19, 22,and 23.) We will practice tomorrow night and Thursday night so make sure you get some running in.

I have the USA Wrestling cards for the first group who paid a few weeks ago. I will be sending in the next wave of membership to USA Wrestling Thursday morning so make sure you get me $30 tomorrow night if you haven't done so already.

Cheers,
Coach Lucas

  Hello Team!

I'm planning a team photo to be taken Friday, March 8 first thing at 8pm. I'll work with Joe, our handy dandy Web Guru, to get us some SJSU team singlets for the occasion. We may even roll around in those singlets to see if they can weather the storm (wouldn't want anyone to experience a rip during a real match!)

Mark your calendars, Friday, March 8 at 8pm for the team photo!

Cheers,
Coach Lucas

Just talked with the driver and he's heading towards Gilroy right now (10:10am, Monday, Jan 28.) He's on his way to Pioneer High School in San Jose to drop off some wall mats then will be on his way to SJSU. Looks like he'll be there around 1pm.

As such I need at least 8 of you to be there around 1pm to help carry our mats up to the wrestling room.

Also, first practice is tonight, starting at 8pm. Some of you have emailed me with your schedules. Please, don't worry about having to make every practice. I offer all of these practices to you. Take advantage of those you
can.

I hope all of you are as excited about wrestling starting up as I am. See you all soon!

Cheers,
Coach Lucas

Just got a call from the driver. Our mat is scheduled to arrive at SJSU this coming Monday, January 28 between 1 and 2 pm on the corner of 4th & San Carlos.

We will then need to haul it up to the wrestling room. As I mentioned previously, no shoes whatsoever are allowed on the green judo mats so we will need to be in our socks or bare feet when we enter the room.

I have just completed the paperwork to officially schedule our workouts Monday through Friday 8-9:30pm and Saturdays 10am until Noon (except for Feb 2 and Feb 9. Otherwise we have that time.)

All systems are a go, TEAM! We're on our way.

  WORKOUT AGENDA
8-8:30pm - unroll mats and warm ups (running, stretching, calisthenics)
While we are warming up I will detail paperwork issues, deadlines, etc.
8:30-9:00pm - instruction, drilling
Primarily this first week I will be assessing your technique. Most importantly we will be working on stance, position, motion.
9:00-9:30 - Live wrestling.
We will break into groups based on weight and level of expertise. Live wrestling, focusing on what we've just learned, drilled. Towards the end of the practice we will do a "cool down" and roll the mats back up.

We must ALWAYS leave the room cleaner than when we found it!

  Hello Team!

Your anticipation is paying off! I just got off the phone with ResiliteWrestling Mat Company in Pennsylvania and our mat was loaded last Friday and is headed our way. They have a few stops before they get here, but it should be here next Monday, January 28. Be expecting phone calls from me as this gets closer. I know it's difficult to commit when right now I don't know what time. If you could email me your availabilities this coming Monday, that would be greatly appreciated.

With this in mind, we are also scheduling our first practice to begin next Monday, January 28, in the wrestling/judo room, 2nd floor of the old men's gym on the corner of 4th & San Carlos. PLEASE NOTE: Those little green mats in that room CANNOT be stepped on with any shoes of any kind (including wrestling shoes!) So when entering the wrestling room, please be in either bare feet or socks only!

Practice schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 pm until 9:30pm; Saturday 10:00am until Noon. Make as many as you can.

Stanford has already stated they would like a scrimmage with us and I expect to get the same reception from Menlo College, San Francisco State and West Valley. The freestyle season will be here in March so we have that to look forward to, as well. The club will continue through the summer, too!

Also, your "old man" Coach has started running. I've got my Masters National Championships in Las Vegas April 25, 26. I will never ask you to do anything that I wouldn't do. But as a "Gable-Trained" wrestler understand this won't be a cake walk! But that's why we're on the mat to begin with, right?!!!

Also, if I don't have your student ID number, please send that to me. And everybody needs to bring a check made out to "Jim Lucas" for $30 so I can send one check to USA Wrestling for membership dues.

There's 23 people on the "To" portion of this email. There's another four people who want to participate who I don't have email addresses for. Plus there's eight guys on the judo team that also want to wrestle. This is going to be one heck of a team!

Look forward to getting on the mat.

Let's Go, TEAM!!!

Resilte Wrestling Mat Company just called me and said the truck with our mat will be loaded NEXT FRIDAY, January 18 now (instead of today.) As such, the mat will now arrive around January 24 or 25. I will need a bunch of you to help unload the mat and take it to the wrestling room on the corner of 4th Street and San Carlos. Let me know what your schedules are for those days and we'll coordinate.

In the meantime - start running! If you are like me, after the Holidays I had quite a scare when I got on the scale. So I've started my running regimen again. I hope you do the same.

First practices should start Monday, January 28 8:00pm until 9:30pm. Practices will be Monday through Friday for all who can make it. I will need $30 (checks made out to me, Jim Lucas), as I have to turn in one check to USA Wrestling to cover annual membership dues for all team members.

Let me know if Saturday morning practices are also something you'd like to do. (Tentatively 10am as judo comes in at 1pm.)

Cheers,
Jim

The mat is being loaded onto the truck this Friday, January 11. Expected due date will be the latter part of the following week, approximately January 17 or 18.

We need people to unload the mat and take it to the wrestling room. I need volunteers! Who can help?

Let me know ASAP!

(I can be there to stay with the mat when it arrives. Then when we get enough people, we can then haul it up to the wrestling room.)

Again, let me know your schedules, your cell phone numbers, etc.

As such, we'll start practices Monday, January 21, 8:00-9:30pm! YOWZA!

Cheers,
Jim

  FLASH!!!!

Hello Team!

We scored a mat from Resilite. I'm working out the details but sometimebetween January 2-11, we'll have to truck on down to the gym at the corner of 4th & San Carlos to help haul our mat up to the wrestling room!

We're on our way! As soon as the mat gets here, we're on it!

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Coach Lucas

  Hello Team!

Well, the paperwork has been turned in, and the Club Charter is according to the guidelines SJSU wants, and it looks like we're going to be getting a mat from Penn State that's in real good condition at a good cost. We may be able to start wrestling in a few weeks. Yowza! So what that means is this...START RUNNING! Start getting in shape. (I include myself in that statement, as well.) Really, the last thing we want to do is puke on a new wrestling mat! Practices will be Monday through Friday 8-9:30pm in the old wrestling room (where judo practices now.) As soon as we get the final OK with scheduling, I'll let you know. Spread the word. Tell a friend. The more, the merrier! Those of you who haven't sent me your student ID number, please do so.

ALSO - IMPORTANT! Part of us getting this program going is that we will be a Charter Club of USA Wrestling. I will take care of paying for that but ALL SJSU WC Members must be USA Wrestling individual members. That costs $30 for a year. When we have our first team meeting, please bring a check made out to me for $30. I will need your full name, address and your birth date (I'll bring the USA Wrestling team form with me.) By the way, USAW membership allows you to compete in USAW tournaments. Membership is good through August 2002 (then we have to renew for another year.)

Talk to you soon!

Let's go TEAM!

Cheers,
Jim
